I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Australia over the years, so this post is an ongoing collection of places I liked in Melbourne and Sydney, inspired by my much more extensive guide to Berlin. I mostly created this post to have a handy link I can send to people asking for personal tips – I’m by no means an authority and it’s not intended to be any type of comprehensive travel guide.

Melbourne

I’ve visited Melbourne a couple of times and lived there for about 6 months in 2021. I mostly stayed in Fitzroy and Collingwood, so my picks are heavily centered around this area and the CBD (Central Business District), which was in walking distance.

Sydney

I spent less time in Sydney overall, so I have fewer recommendations here. Last time I visited, we booked an Airbnb in Crows Nest, and with the the new metro line around the corner connecting straight to the CBD, it was the perfect location to stay as a tourist.
